Skylar Gee Looking For Strong Gold Cup Performance Following Top Five At The Rushmore Rumble

LEDUC, ALB. (July 19, 2017) When you get the call from Doug Rutz to race in front of your hometown crowd, you don’t say no. With that in mind, Skylar Gee is headed north this weekend for the 62nd running of the Jim Albert Memorial Gold Cup at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alb. Canada on Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity. I would never have thought I would get the chance to race for Doug at the Gold Cup. I have a lot of respect for him and for Travis in what they were able to accomplish together, so like I said, I’m just really excited,” commented Skylar who won the Gold Cup in 2015 after starting 11th.

Just off the Rushmore Rumble with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Gee picked up a weekend best fifth place finish during Friday’s preliminary A-Feature after starting eighth.

“It was a good run, but it seems like every time we have a good car, we are starting so far back it makes it hard to really show how good we are, but at the same time, it shows we can move forward. We’re getting better every night and I feel like we’re getting close to our first National Tour win,” commented Gee of his Friday night performance.

Tenth the following night, Gee was lurking just outside the top five for most of the race until a late race restart.

“We’re not sure what happened. The car was a little free all night, but after the caution, it was really loose like a tire sealed over. I think we would have been sixth or seventh had the caution not come out.”
