Mallett Garners Top 10 During Debut in South Dakota

Inside Line Promotions – RAPID CITY, S.D. (June 19, 2019) – Jordon Mallett produced a top-10 finish during his first-ever visit to South Dakota last Friday.

Mallett and the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour invaded Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, where the Arkansas native and ASCS National Tour rookie advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race. That earned enough points to make the feature redraw and Mallett pulled the No. 8 to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the A Main.

“I feel like it was a missed opportunity,” he said. “In the feature around Lap 5 or so I got crossed up and basically spun the car out. I got it turned sideways and thought it was recovered, but I got clipped by another car and it caused a caution. I had to go to the back and made it up to seventh.”

Mallett’s seventh-place finish marked his fifth top 10 of the season with the ASCS National Tour.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Black Hills Speedway. Mallett finished where he started – third – in a heat race after an incident. That lined him up in the 14th starting position for the main event.

“We were really good in hot laps and in the heat race I had a racing deal,” he said. “We ran the leader down and I was tired of following. I got beside him in turn four and he spun. I got collected and had nowhere to go. I came back to make it to third to at least not lose any points. That set us up pretty bad for the feature. It was pretty hard to go anywhere early on and it didn’t get much better. The car came in too late. We were running around ninth when we cut a left rear tire with seven laps to go.”

Mallett was unable to finish and he was credited with an 18th-place result.

He currently ranks eighth in the championship standings as the series heads to the Northwest for the next two weeks. Mallett will make his debut in Washington during races this Thursday through Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger for the 48th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup.

“I’m excited to be in this part of the country and see the track,” he said. “We’ll take it night by night. If we can get our ducks in a row and with a little luck on our side I think we’ll have a pretty good showing.”
